Mitasu | Japanese Pub restaurants in Seoul

Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, is an area where many Japanese people have lived since ancient times. With one counter and three tables, Mitasu is a small pub in the area. It mainly sells Japanese sake and snacks to go with it. The total cost is a bit high as they do not sell popular liquors such as shochu. The room is small and there are few seats, making reservations difficult. However, the atmosphere in the small room is nostalgic. You’ll feel like you’re in a local Japanese pub. The restaurant is famous for its five types of sashimi, menchikatsu(left photo) and buta shabu (right photo). It’s a pity that the dining hours are limited to two or three hours, depending on the alcoholic drinks you order.

With no sugar, no butter and no MSG, this restaurant uses healthy recipes to prepare its food. Cream of whole pumpkin soup is their signature dish, creamy and delicious (pictured). The pumpkin serves as a container for the soup and you can dig into the pumpkin at the same time. This is a great place for those who don’t like to eat out because of the excessive salt and sweetness.

Tama | Eel Rice Bowl restaurants in Seoul

This eel bowl restaurant is very famous among office workers in Yeouido. The best freshwater eel is cooked directly. You can taste the soft texture of the eel rice bowl without a single splinter. There is only one menu, which consists of steamed egg, fried shrimp, eel and green tea ice cream. Due to its popularity, there is a waiting list, but as it’s only one menu, it rotates quickly, so you won’t have to wait long. The portions are large, so many customers take home leftovers. For the price, you might think there is a lack of service and space, but the amount of eel served in the eel bowl justifies the price.
